a photo of me!

just thought you might want to see a close up of me!

visiting the Grand Ole Opry Hotel

Today we visited the Grand Ole Opry Hotel and took a boat ride. We learned that they have water in the river around the delta area from all 50 states and 30 other countries. There are wood ducks in the river as well. They don't quack they whistle. They also have catfish weighing in anywhere from 15-85 lbs and they are black, white and blue. There were lots of cool flowers and plants. One of the plants got all it's nutrients from the air. Another will last up to 45 days after you cut it. If you put it in water of course. There were three large waterfalls to circulate the water in the river. The dome of glass that you see would cover 7 football fields if you were to lay the glass side by side. We also found out that this hotel is the largest in the US without a casino. funny. After our tour we went to Ben and Jerry's and split an oatmeal cookie ice cream. It's Liam's mom's favorite. It was a great day. Thanks!

Flat Stanley visits Us

Hey there Stanley here. I was just writing a little about my adventure in Nashville. I was able to learn lots more about Nashville and see some fun things at the same time. Liam and Isabelle took me to the Tennessee State Museum. We went there with their mom and Aunt Christy and Cousin Cole. It was great. We went to see the flag old Glory. It was huge. It has been housed in the Smithsonian, but was lent to Tennessee for a time. It is an American Flag that was flown from a ship owned by a man named Williams Driver in the 1820's and 30's. This flag was hidden inside his quilt during the civil war so that confederate sympathizers would not destroy it. When the union army took over Nashville in 1862 Driver brought his flag out of hiding and it was flown over the state capital. It was after this that the nickname "Old Glory" was born.
Our next stop was the Nashville Parthenon. This building is an exact replica of the Parthenon and was errected for the 1897 Centennial Exposition. It was to be taken down following the exposition, but became such an icon, that it was built up to be a permenant structure. It now serves as a museum and houses a 42 foot statue of Athena.
The park there was super cool too. We fed the ducks and walked around the flower gardens. It was great fun.
Our final stop in Nashville for now was the Grand Ole' Opry Hotel. This is an incredible structure. The gardens are so beautiful and you really can't beat a little Ben and Jerry's ice cream to boot.
